GOOGLE WILL HOLD YOUR HAND ON HOLS G

-

OOGLE has launched a new travel app, which it calls “a personalised tour guide in your pocket”. Called Trips, the free app — available for iOS and Android — offers city guides, tips from the company’s travel experts and personalised recommendations based on your Google history: the attractions, activities and restaurants the sages of Google think you’re most likely to like.

Of course, Trips also communicates with Maps and Gmail so the mundane — but crucial — parts of your itinerary, such as when your flight is or where your hotel is, will be taken care of too.

The result is a travel app that offers tons of information about your choices as well as keeping tabs on when you have to be where.

Best of all, the information will all be available offline, so you won’t have to waste time or precious coffee money lurking in a Wi-Fi hotspot to consult it.

In a blog post, Google explains its capabilities thus: “Say your friends told you that you have to see the Sagrada Família — and you’re looking for suggestions on things to do around that spot. Press the ‘+’ button in the day-plans tile to jump into a map view containing all the top attractions in your destination.

“If you’re time-constrained, you can specify above the map whether you have just the morning or afternoon, versus a full day.

“Then simply tap and pin the Sagrada Família to build your itinerary around it. Google Trips automatically fills in the day for you.” Aw, thanks Google.
