I WAS one of the unsuspecting idiots who fell for Vodacom’s “free” Wi-Fi offer (Power Report, September 25). My account doubled within the first month of using it. I knew I had been conned and demanded my contract be reversed to the original, which had been updated a mere two months before I received my “life-changing offer”. The phone conversation was listened to, in which I repeatedly asked if it was really for free and was assured it was — and even a saving on my current contract with extra data. I also repeated that if I found out it was a scam or I was being lied to I would immediately return the Wi-Fi modem, which I did. Thankfully, through persistence and threats, I managed to get it solved. Now, three months later, I get offered the same deal! I listened to the “offer”, laughed, used some choice language and hung up. —
