Pravin’s ovation leaves Des down in the dumps
SOMETIMES it’s hard to tell opposition from ruling party in our parliament. Wednesday was one of those weird days when the opposition led the standing ovation for Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s budget speech while some of his cabinet colleagues remained rooted to their seats, looking dejected.
Hogarth was, however, not surprised that one of those ministers was David “Des” van Rooyen. He must have been jealous when it struck him that, as the only former finance minister not to have delivered the budget speech, he will never ever get such love from the house.
