Mendacious Mendi news?
THE articles about the Mendi reminded me of a Tswana poem prescribed by my teacher in the mid-’60s, Go nwella ga Mendi (The sinking of the Mendi).
The writer (whose name I cannot remember) ascribes the sinking to an attack by a German submarine — I held this view for a long time.
Was this misinformation due to the author’s ignorance, or was it deliberate by the British and South African authorities? — Seboko Malatsi, Soweto
