YOUNG women living in one of Hillbrow’s newest blocks of flats covered the air ventilation bricks in their bathrooms this week and kept their windows locked after being plagued by “Peeping Toms” during the past few months. One of the Peeping Toms was fined R100 in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court this week after he had been caught by a number of the men living in the building. The young career women in Hillbrow flats are becoming scared of living alone because of Peeping Toms and are afraid to venture out alone during the day and at night for fear of being molested in lifts and in the street. — June 18 1967
