Trump threatens war in Korea while Kenyatta pleads for peace in Kenya

-

US President Donald Trump issued a new threat to North Korea on Friday, saying the US military was “locked and loaded”. Pyongyang accused him of driving the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war and world powers expressed alarm. The US and South Korea have planned a joint military exercise in 10 days. Earlier in the week, Trump warned of “fire and fury” like the world has never seen against North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. North Korea has endured 25 years of US bluster, so Kim knows the game and replied that he would soon fire four missiles over the Sea of Japan, towards the US territory of Guam. Kim said Trump was “a guy bereft of reason”.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta secured a second term in office, results showed on Friday. Kenyatta told his opponent: “To my worthy competitor Raila Odinga, I reach out to you. I reach out to your supporters, let us work together.” Amid wild celebrations in the streets on Nairobi, there were some protests against the result and at least five people were killed. Kenyans were fearing a repeat of the 2007 poll violence.
