100 000

The number of crayfish sent from China to Russia for Chinese fans to eat during their visit to the Fifa World Cup 2018, according to the South China Morning Post.

As 100 000 Chinese fans are expected to attend the tournament, that works out to one crayfish per fan, assuming that fans from elsewhere don’t gobble them up first.

The paper also enlisted the powers of an 11-year-old dog named Datou to predict — using treats — the overall winner. After some hesitation, Datou chose Iceland.

In Russia, it was a “psychic” cat named Achilles who predicted that his home team would win the first match, which they did, beating Saudi Arabia 5-0. Achilles, who does vermin control at St Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum, picked various winners in the 2017 Confederations Cup.
