Eating ideas from our ancestors

-

THE PALEOLITHIC diet is based mainly on foods presumed to have been available to our ancestors – Paleolithic humans – and typically includes vegetables, fruit, nuts, roots, meat and organ meats, while excluding foods such as dairy products, grains, sugar, legumes, processed oils, salt, and alcohol or coffee.

The diet is based on avoiding not just modern processed foods, but the foods humans began eating after the Neolithic Revolution, when we transitioned from huntergatherer lifestyles to settled agriculture.

The paleo diet is winning recognition as an effective way to lose weight and stay in shape. It also has the added benefit of helping individuals with autoimmune disorders like multiple sclerosis live fuller, healthier lives.

Paleo diets are made up of nutrient-rich organic foods and omit fatty processed foods. If you’re on a paleo diet, you can eat healthy organic meats and fish, non-starchy vegetables, natural oils and fats, nuts and fruits.

The Paleo Recipe Book is one of the most accessible, with easy-touse collections of paleo recipes. Here are five reasons why it’s a useful buy for anyone who wants to live a healthier life:

There are 372 recipes, organised under 18 categories, all with large photographs of the finished dish.

There are icons listing the nutritional values for the dish, including the amount of protein, carbohydrates and fat. The icons also list the cooking and preparation time, as well as the number of servings. Because paleo diets are based on earlier times, the recipes tend to be easier to prepare and cook, saving time and giving you more time to actually enjoy the food.

It delivers healthy and simple recipes you can whip up in minutes, but which taste as good as anything you could take hours to make.

Because the recipes are so simple, presentation becomes much easier. The author has included a few helpful extras. These include:

A bonus eight-week meal plan that takes the guesswork out of planning your paleo diet, providing options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack, so you’re covered from dawn to dusk.

Paleo desserts – 30 quick and easy meal ideas that can be ready in almost no time.

A cheat sheet you can use to find alternatives to things like dairy and flour. The biggest hurdle to changing your lifestyle for the better is taking that first step. This book invites people of all ages and walks of life to enjoy themselves to the full while going paleo. It’s reflected in the accessible, easy-to-understand language of the book’s recipes. There are over 370 recipes in this book, so if you were to try one recipe a day, it would take a year to get through the book. You’ll more likely try out a few of the recipes, find some that are your favourites, and stick with them. The Paleo Recipe Book has been created to benefit any number of people with a variety of ills. For example, it is an effective weight management tool.

It provides a way to reduce sugar and help a range of issues including high blood pressure, diabetes and other diet-related illnesses. Sébastien Noël is the same person behind Paleoleap.com. The recipe book was inspired by what he experienced as a child.

With years of pain behind him, the research seemed to lead him in many different directions and Noël tried one diet plan after another before finding the paleo diet.

He scrutinised his diet, which included way too much sugar, wheat, dairy and soya.

Having experienced debilitating migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, leaky gut, allergies and a weakened immune system, Noël set about finding a natural way to feel better.

He believed that the root causes of health issues were to be found in the lifestyle and diet of a person. Using that belief he developed his Paleo Recipe Book. It was a culmination of years of research and learning, which he was keen to share with others interested in learning about optimal health.

After years of trial and error experimenting, Noël put everything he learnt into this book.
