‘Rapist dad’ could face more charges

- MERVYN NAIDOO

A CHATSWORTH father, 50, who appeared in court this week for the alleged rape of his 9-year-old daughter may face further charges.

According to a well-placed source, the accused’s 15-yearold daughter was recently examined by a medical expert and also found to have been raped. It is believed the father is the perpetrator.

The source, who asked not to be named, said the test results were confirmed on Thursday.

“The father has also had DNA tests done and we await those results, which could be conclusive in confirming whether he had raped both (of three) daughters.

“There is also suspicion that the accused is the father of his eldest daughter’s 3-yearold child. The DNA test results will be telling.”

Community activist and former ANC ward councillor Brandon Pillay said he wouldn’t be surprised if the results were as the informant had stated.

“We’ve also heard rumours about the accused being the father of his daughter’s young child. If true, then it just confirms the 9-year-old’s version that her father had also raped her sisters.”

Pillay said it was upsetting that the rape allegations had emerged even before the “Baby X” matter was finalised.

The 3-year old who was brutalised, sexually assaulted and later killed, allegedly by her mother and grandmother, and lived in the same unit (suburb) in Chatsworth, was dubbed Baby X by the media.

“This child (the 9-year-old) had to be raped repeatedly before her cries for help were heard.

“I believe the man’s wife knows everything but she has been covering up for her husband. She must also face similar charges because she concealed rape,” said Pillay.

The father appeared briefly at the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court this week, and his matter attracted huge public and media interest.

He faced charges relating to rape, incest and child abuse.

He was arrested last week after his daughter told all to her schoolteacher.

Placard-bearing demonstrators demanded the accused be refused bail.

Pillay was in the courtroom and caught a glimpse of the accused’s wife and one of her older daughters before she was whisked away by police, who feared for her safety.

“The wife looked like a nervous wreck,” Pillay said.

The matter was adjourned to Wednesday for the man’s formal bail application.
