Durban loses photography legend
TOP DURBAN photographer Anand Govender, 51, owner of Image Factor, died of a heart attack at his home this week.
His death came as a shock to his customers and community as he appeared to be in good health.
Govender, pictured right, the son of Bala Govender, of Bala Govender and Sons, was a photographer for more than three decades.
Wedding photography was his forte but he was also known for graduation and conference photography.
Image Factor’s website states: “It is often said that our chief photographer, Anand Govender, the photo guru, uses his camera as a paintbrush.” Bala Govender said his son had left a lasting impression on the industry. “Everybody knew Anand’s amazing photography and his death is a shock for the family. He complained of a burning sensation in his chest and his wife was about to take him to hospital but before she could, he collapsed from a heart attack,” said Govender. He said Anand would be remembered for his charm, charisma and photographic skill. Local celebrities and figures took to social media to express their sentiments. Singer Natalie Rungan posted: “Really saddened to hear of the passing of my friend, Anand Govender. Such a kind, generous and talented person. May his soul rest in peace.”
Rajendran Thangavelu Govender said: “I am shocked to hear of the passing of a talented photographer. I am devastated. He and I were to do a project together.”
Satish Dhupelia said: “We met a few times this year and he said he wished he could learn to relax and be as calm as I seemed to be. Today I also wished he had done so – we’ve lost a very talented friend in him. May his soul rest in peace.”
Marlan Padayachee said: “Condolences to the Govender family on the tragic passing of one of Durban’s leading lensmen, who developed a high brand output in Image Factor Photography.
