Saftas’ fashion hits and misses

The 11th SA Film and Television Awards red carpet was a mix of really good, really bland and really bad fashion. Buhle Mbonambi picks the looks he loved, hated and didn’t care much for

SO. I had hoped our stars would prove me wrong and actually made sure they dressed up for the Saftas and lived up to expectations. Sadly, most didn’t.

So with such a famine of true beauty, I’ve had to really look to find looks that really impressed. Great choice of colour too. Thembisa Mdoda: I’ve denounced cape gowns for two years and yet Thembisa Mdoda looked amazing on the red carpet. The fit and colour were great and she styled it perfectly. She let the gown do the talking. three times, which was unnecessary as it just was a bad showcase of clothes. From the Ndebele inspired garment to the suits, nothing worked. It was OTT. It was boring. Liesl Laurie: *Sigh* Can the naked dress trend die? What did lining ever do to designers? Blue Mbombo: See, this had the chance of being a really good look. Sadly, she decided to have the best of both worlds, a jumpsuit and a gown. Big mistake. The train just ruined this outfit. She should have decided what she wanted to wear – a gown or a jumpsuit. Bonang Matheba: This has all the hallmarks of the naked dress trend that I’m personally over. But the fit and the top part of the dress – the embellishments – saved this look. Still, we expect better from Bonang as the most stylish woman in the country. Stoan Seate: It’s either C2 needs to get better or Stoan needs to rejig his look. It’s predictable and therefore boring. Those sneakers? Why? Charlene Brouwer: So much potential let down by poor fabric choice. As someone said on Twitter: “It looks like the seams are going to burst.” I still think she looked good though.
