Stop degrading Tambo’s name

-

I FEEL sorry for Oliver Tambo. His name is abused by those claiming to live up to his high standard of leadership, morality, ethics and intellectual acumen.

Even those who are exposed in scandals are hiding behind his name to become president. They have no right to speak about this man. Sies!

Nelson Mandela became a symbol of resistance in prison. Ahmed Kathrada, whether in media interviews or leading tourists around Robben Island, stressed that “inside prison there were no policemen, unleashing dogs on them, throwing teargas, beating them” and so on.

(During apartheid) it was those in exile and in the country who suffered most, but Tambo steered the ship, witnessed deaths, managed conflict and saw contemporaries die before him.

Today his name is used by thieves, crooks, hyenas, crocodiles and fraudsters to “colonise”, with foreigners, our public purse.

It is a lie that veterans and stalwarts want an unrepresented consultative conference without branches. The nation, Freedom Charterists and the genuine left of Moses Kotane must support the consultative conference as suggested by Mavuso Msimang and Siphiwe Nyanda.

One of its tasks must be to advocate that people of immoral and unethical standards are banned from abusing the good name of OR who was a moralist and 100% Christian.

We must heed Supra Mahumapelo’s call for a referendum on President Jacob Zuma. SIYANDA MHLONGO Kwadukuza
