JERICO GOVENDER
Jerico’s Rox is breaking down the walls
I HAVE often described the VW Citi Golf as the Ferrari of the working class. Despite its obviously dated design, the Citi still maintains its place even among hardcore motoring enthusiasts.
The reason for this, perhaps, is that the Citi Golf is seen more as a performance platform than a commuting device and is possibly one of the most scalable hatches on South African roads today.
Jerico Govender is the 23-year-old owner of this week’s featured vehicle, from Mayville, Bonella.
Govender, who works as a tracking clerk at a local company, enjoys deepsea fishing almost as much as he does his neat 2009 Citirox 1.6i.
One of the great things about the VW Citi Golf, and perhaps one of the many reasons it is so popular among enthusiasts, is that it doesn’t take much for it to go from “mild to wild” in the performance stakes.
Govender achieved this through a minimalistic but effective upgrade of the vehicle’s already nimble athletic ability, which was accentuated by the installation of a four-into-one branch mated to a 50mm performance exhaust system.
His car has a fairly standard exterior, detracting only with the clever addition of an HID lighting installation, carbon fibre windshields and a set of mudflaps.
The car has the standard, fairly capable suspension and a set of 15-inch OEM Citi ROX wheels mated to 195/50/15 rubbers.
They say that no Golf is complete without at least a mildly “shattering” sound system. This one is no different and boasts a sound installation that includes a Pioneer USB head unit, a Star Sound 5000W amplifier and a Targa 12-inch subwoofer.
Govender is a proud member of the popular, previously referenced VW Illest Owners Car Club, a collective of Vw-centric petrol-heads who share a love and passion for all things VW apart from meeting the club’s philanthropic objectives.
It was not disclosed how much was spent on this upgrade. SERVICE PROVIDERS: Racer’s Edge Primaforce Kenfield Tyres
