- THAHIR ASMAL

THE Junior T20 Bash hosted by Chatsworth Sporting reached its halfway mark last weekend. Encouraging displays from youngsters across several age divisions dazzled crowds. Log positions have already started to take shape as the competition heads towards its end.

“The players have responded fantastically. Its been competitive and guys have performed at excellent levels,” said tournament director, Jason Sathiaseelan.

“Teams have been wearing coloured clothing which just added to the fantastic occasion,” he said.

Phoenix Cricket Club have made an excellent start and top the Under-15 log with three wins out of four.

In the Under-13 division, Dream Chasers Reservoir Hills are unbeaten at the top of the table. Chasers beat UKZN Pietermaritzburg by a mammoth 137 runs last weekend. After setting the opposition a total of 208 they bowled them out for 79.

Their Under-11 side also boast an unblemished record.

They were made to work for their win over Amanzimtoti Cricket Academy (ACA). Batting first they scored 189/5. In reply ACA managed 152/6 despite De Wet van Wyk scoring an excellent 77.

“There have been a few centuries scored in this tournament. Witnessing the talent on display has been a spectacle. There has been a large audience at games which creates such a lovely atmosphere. To witness this in the off season has been special,” said Sathiaseelan.

The finals are set to take place on August 20, Road 121 and 114 grounds.
