Pietermaritzburg Railway Station, above, was among buildings chosen to display the tricolours of India’s flag as it was where Mahatma Gandhi was thrown off a train and began his struggle for freedom, becoming one of the icons to strengthen bonds with South Africa.vikram invited the public to a free Magnificent India event at Suncoast Casino today. – Karinda Jagmohan NATASHIA Portrag’s journey in comedy began with a video posted on Facebook and now she has become a household name.

From an early age, Portrage, 31, right, enjoyed making people laugh.

“I have always been the funny bunny in the family, and brightened the mood.

“We live in stressful times. Comedy is the perfect way to destress and help others,” said Portrag.

Having notched up thousands of views with her Have a Bash with Tash videos on social media, Portrag has become an inspiration for women.

She said: “Being a female in a male-dominated environment is something else. I have done amazing collaborations with wellknown male artists. They went down well. I’m proud to be an ambassador for women.

“I thought it would be a challenge to break into the local circle of comedians, but the guys in the industry were amazing and are empowerment-minded. They were easy to work with.

“As long as you stay true to yourself and you’re real about what you’re doing, the platform will never be about males versus females.”

A qualified administrator, she believes she inherited her sense of humour from her father and would not have achieved so much without the support of her parents, siblings and partner.

Portrag said: “My inspiration comes from God and my parents. My parents have always allowed me to follow my dreams and encouraged me to be great in every aspect of my life.”

Also a motivational speaker, she said she believed Women’s Month was special.
