Durban’s Food Festival

- LUTHO PASIYA

TICKLE your taste buds and experience the melting pot of flavours, cultures, sounds and sights that made Durban the cosmopolitan smorgasbord it is today.

From bunny chows and shisa nyama to walky-talkys, burgers, seafood, Asian food, vegan cuisine and tastes from every corner of our sophisticated city, the third annual Durban Street Food Festival is here.

With more than 60 of Durban’s best food and craft vendors, the Durban Street Food Festival celebrates the ethnic diversity of Durban through food, music, art and social connections.

“We are expecting over 7 000 people this year over the four days,” says organiser Georgios Kretsos. “This year is amazing; we have a wider culinary range of food and craft available showcasing Durban’s finest vendors.

“Durban Street Food Festival is really something different from your normal food festivals here in Kwazulu-natal. We have a packed line-up of great local music every day, from Veranda Panda, Robin Thirdfloor, Eazy Freaks to Freddy L and Palm Tree Paradise, just to name a few.”

There’s a gin and tonic garden and a wine-tasting section, plus some great family fun activities, says Kretsos.

Event-goers can taste the raw ingredients that make up the rich cultures of Durban in celebration of Heritage Month by indulging in the unique flavours of Durban’s legendary inner-city and coastal vendors like Prawn Star, Afro’s Chicken, Gloria Jeans Coffee, The Durban Pop-up Shop, Satisfied, Smooth Operator, Sugarlicious, Fred’s Pizza Truck, Kandy Man and a whole lot more.

The Durban Street Food Festival has been on the whole weekend and ends tomorrow at The Pavilion Shopping Centre. Tickets cost R50 a day.
