Two palatial properties for sale
One mansion has helipad and basement squash court, the other has stables
AUCTION houses now and again find truly exceptional houses for disposal. But for Ian Wyles Auctioneers, millionaires’ mansions seem to have become the norm these days as the KZN company prepares to auction yet another two impressive properties.
A few weeks ago Ian Wyles achieved a selling price of R6.5 million for a nine-bedroom palatial residence at 74 Haygarth Road in Kloof.
Now two more spectacular dwellings await his hammer:
The first is a Durban North “Hollywood mansion” with eight bedrooms and helicopter pad to be sold on site on July 4 at 11am.
The Beverly Hills-styled property at 45 St Kilda Avenue in Athlone was last owned by the liquidated company “World African Network – Durban North” which had American connections.
The mansion includes a stunning pewter staircase said to have taken 18 months to complete, a basement squash court and several pools.
Andrew Giddy, property manager for Ian Wyles Auctioneers, says the double-storey, 1 600m² mansion needs extensive restoration as it has been vacant for four years.
But he believes its size and spectacular location – overlooking the bay and Moses Mabhida Stadium – lend themselves to conversion to a boutique hotel or upmarket B&bestablishment.
The second property is a millionaire’s mansion in the equestrian sanctuary of Summerveld, near Hillcrest, to be auctioned by Ian Wyles at the Durban Country Club on July 18.
The residence at 35 Summerview Place stands on 2.5ha with spectacular views of the valley below.
The mansion’s living areas open to a large enclosed veranda with stack-back doors and a braai. Upstairs are three large bedrooms – all with balconies – and downstairs is a private guest suite with bathroom, study and four reception rooms. Above the three automated garages is a separate one-bedroom flat with kitchen, dining room, lounge and en-suite bathroom.
Also on the premises is a stable block with six stables, tack room, feed room, kitchenette, and groom’s room with bathroom.
