THE Care4love Foundation is celebrating Youth Month by hosting a Mental Wellness Programme.

The NPO’S main purpose is to serve the community while igniting the love within each individual.

Shahiel Chetty, founder of Care4love, said the idea stemmed from his personal experience in dealing with certain situations during lockdown.

“I was fortunate enough to have an interactive session with a mental health expert which helped me cope with the uncertainty. I, thereafter, thought of the idea of making this available to the public because many people are suffering with their own issues,” said Chetty.

The initiative, which started this month, aims to raise awareness about the mental strain people, families and communities have been facing since the start of the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Our youth don’t realise the importance of mental health. They also, unfortunately, don’t take the initiative to focus on their mental well-being,” said Chetty.

A webinar, titled was hosted yesterday. The webinar highlighted the power of the mind and allowed participants to break away from the stigma associated with mental health by sharing experiences, stories, and guidance on mental well-being.

“The only way to break away from the stigma is to address the topic and create awareness. We, as youth, need to make a conscious effort to speak openly about mental health issues.

“The more we speak about it, the more comfortable people would be,” said Chetty.
