The Spice Goddess now inspires a positive self-image

- CLINTON MOODLEY

VERUSHKA Ramasami is not your typical blogger.

Although she is internationally recognised for her zany and informative blog, The Spice Goddess, she is also using her voice to spread the message of body confidence and the importance of a positive self image.

The 36-year-old from Isipingo was recently named the brand ambassador for Curvy Girls Chronicles, an organisation that promotes body positivity among women.

Ramasami, a travel and tourism lecturer at the Coastal KZN TVET college, has been vocal about women accepting their flaws as she was a curvy woman herself.

“I want to be the voice of people to show them that it’s okay to love themselves even if the way they look does not meet society’s expectations.

“I remember writing a piece called #PlusSizeMe decides to #ChooseBeautiful last year. The inspiration for the title came from a campaign that Dove ran in which women were encouraged to accept their flaws.

“After returning from Mauritius I had the courage to share my journey as a plus size person. The post was very personal and I was very open about my feelings and emotions. I realised that there was so much more to me than just the way I look,” she said.

She was chosen to join 29 travel bloggers from around the world on a two week road trip to Kerala in February.

She has received much praise for her lifestyle blog where she shares her experience in food, travel, reviews and inspiration.

The Spice Goddess, which started in 2011, was inspired by the book and movie adaptation Mistress of the Spices.

She believes in the #Live2Inspire motto because she wants to “inspire others to dream big and pursue their dreams”.

Ramasami was so passionate about the words that she had them tattooed on her arm.

In the next 10 years she hopes to start blogging full-time and have The Spice Goddess brand as a media company.

She intends writing a cookbook and adding more stamps to her passport through travel.

When she is not blogging about her eccentric life, she loves spending time with her two “furkids” Zara and Chai, whipping up a storm in the kitchen, and reading. Verushka Ramasami of Isipingo has been recognised for her blog and was recently named brand ambassador for the Curvy Girls Chronicle.
