‘Kandasamys’ keeping up with best of Hollywood

- NABEELAH SHAIKH

Kandasamys, Keeping up with the LOCAL movie Keeping up with the Kandasamys is soaring at the box office and is set to exceed 100 000 viewers by tomorrow. It has already raked in R4 million over the last two weeks.

Competing with the likes of Logan and 50 Shades Darker, the film has earned third spot in South Africa. It made R1.6m during its opening weekend.

Set in Chatsworth, the movie is a look into the lifestyle and subculture of modern-day Indian South Africans.

“We extend our absolute gratitude to everyone who has bought a ticket to watch the movie. This is an amazing sign for local cinema. Kandasamys is a feel-good movie and this is a sign of what local audiences want,” said Keeping up with the Kandasamys producer Javan Moodley.

“We will get new statistics tomorrow and we will hopefully cross the 100 000 mark. The cast have been doing meet and greets at cinemas across the country and the response has been phenomenal.”

Moodley has already received queries about whether there will be a sequel.

“We are contemplating this and we hope that there will be a sequel. If the movie continues to perform well and if piracy doesn’t beat us at the box office, then we will have enough money to pay investors and keep them happy,” she said.

“This would be a good sign for the prospect of a sequel.”
