Root out cause why ministers fail
YET another minister, this time Social Development’s Bathabile Dlamini, faces the wrath of people who feel badly let down and now label her “heartless”.
Analysing the many failures of public servants leads one to question why so many of them are unable to meet the demands of their jobs.
It is possible that some have the intent and passion to improve the workings of their portfolios but fail either because the task is found to be insurmountable due to inherent complexities, or the person appointed for the task is incapable, in terms of skill, experience or knowledge to overcome the difficulties.
It is possible that the reasons for the lack of success are due to the person falling short in both areas.
Task teams must, as a priority, carefully identify at government level exactly who is properly equipped for the task (before they are appointed) to at least eliminate one of the major reasons for failure.
