Keep moving with Muvo

New cashless payment system will be used on all city buses

-

THE NEW cashless payment system, Muvo smart cards, will now be used for bus commuting in Durban.

The cards will be used on the city’s Durban Transport buses, the People Mover and Mynah buses. The Muvo cards were first introduced by the city in 2012 to do away with the need for cash.

In a statement issued by the city’s transport department, commuters were advised to check the expiry date on the front of their cards. If they expire in April or July this year, they can be replaced, free of charge, until the end of August. “After this period, commuters will be charged the normal fee of R20 for replacement cards,” read the statement. “When applying for a new card, commuters will need to produce their identity document and can do so at any mobile Muvo Smartvan or Paypoint.”

Once a Muvo card has expired, it will not work. The city said unused trips would be transferred to the new card immediately if it was swopped before the expiry date. If, however, the card was replaced after the expiry date, it would take seven days for the trips to reflect on the new card.

Commuters have been reminded to keep checking the expiry date on their cards and exchange them.
