A beauty with a charitable heart

-

DESCRIBING herself as a “beauty with a purpose”, Simara Moodley, 20, has won the Miss Junior SA 2017.

The model from Springfield Park, Durban, secured the title at the glitzy event in Pretoria earlier this month.

“It was an incredible journey and extremely challenging,” she says, “but it was an exciting week”.

Moodley counts among her titles Miss Durban, Miss Teen Kwazulu-natal 2015 and Miss Role Model International 2016.

She says winning Miss Junior SA 2017 was her biggest achievement to date.

“This title has paved my way to bigger, better opportunities. It means I can expand my plans and vision for the projects I am involved in and passionate about.”

Moodley enjoys family time, movies and church. Her faith is important to her.

“I thank God for His favour and give Him all the glory and honour for giving me a compassionate heart and the strength to go on.”

“My industry is challenging and competitive. But I thrive on challenges and believe we are here to serve and help others,” she says.

Moodley works as a makeup artist and beautician, but now plans to model full-time.

“Winning titles and pageants gives me a platform to get attention for social causes close to my heart.

“My mother has always been involved with charity, whether it’s feeding programmes or just helping someone in need,” says Moodley.

“I dream of starting a foundation to work with communities.

“What a world of difference it would make to a child giving them love, joy and a meal, even just for a day. We need to remind ourselves every day that children in need should never be forgotten”.

Another social issue the beauty queen feels strongly about is human trafficking.

“I’d like to use my position to raise awareness about human trafficking. I believe we can do more to prevent people from being lured by syndicates that seek to enslave and abuse them. Awareness goes a long way.”
