Metro cops help kids understand Youth Day

-

METRO police officers paid a visit to a Sydenham orphanage to speak to the children about the importance of Youth Day.

Captain Peter Keogh, known for his singing and playing the guitar, and Inspector Jacques Fourie spent the day sharing their experiences at the St Thomas Home for Children.

“We chose this place because we want to inspire the kids and give them hope. They are the part of society and it is our duty to make them feel that this country belongs to them,” Keogh said.

Youth Day should be also used to share history, he said. “They have to understand what happened and what the youth of 1976 did for them. I told them nothing is impossible.”

Manager of the home Marie-therese Naidoo lauded the officers’ initiative. “We want to follow Nelson Mandela’s words ‘children first’ to transfer our rich history to our future generations. We need more of these sessions.”
