Dressing elegantly this Eid season

- NABEELAH SHAIKH

EID-UL-FITR is around the corner and Muslims worldwide are preparing to enjoy the festivities. This also means dressing elegantly for the occasion.

This Eid season, renowned Durban designer Haroun Hansrot and Faheema Khan of Bahiya Couture International, share their fashion tips.

Hansrot said if going for a modest Western look, florals were all the rage along with bright and bold colours.

He said head scarves could contrast with floral prints.

“Cut a strip of your floral head scarf and make a belt. A fabulous look can be created with a black abaya.

“Floral headwear and a floral matching belt will go perfectly. Team this with a stylish accent colour bag from the headdress,” said Hansrot.

Khan said this year’s Islamic wear trends had been inspired by Dubai fashion.

This included a selection of abayas fitted with pockets, embroidery or fringing.

Fabrics included a bit of opaqueness, with layering, and unusual silhouettes to create an edgy look.

Winter generally favours dark shades such as burgundy, dark blue, as well as a lot of metallics. Dusty pinks and shades of nudes were still trending, but the signature colour was still black as it always went well, said Khan.
