Dam levels decrease but Inanda remains stable

DAM levels across the country have dropped by a fraction of a percent according to a weekly report published by the Department of Water and Sanitation.

The report revealed Inanda dam had the highest level and was among the most stable of water resources in the country.

The Inanda Dam’s level is 109.6%, followed by Boegoeberg Dam in the Northern Cape at 105.2%.

Inanda is supplied by the Mgeni River. However, despite persistent rains along the coastal areas, Hazelmere Dam, which receives its supply from the Mdloti River, is at a disappoint­ing 55.1%. Hazelmere supplies Ethekwini and the outlying towns such as Zimbali, Ballito, and Tongaat on the North Coast.

The Driel Barrage. north of Durban, was at 102.6%.

The province has 82.7% of water stored in dams and reservoirs, a drop from 83.1% a week ago, said the report.
