School pupils take a stand against drugs
FALCON Park Primary School pupils gathered outside their school in umhlatuzana, Chatsworth, recently to say a resounding “no drugs” to passers-by.
Falcon Park is among the Chatsworth schools that participated in the Anti-drug Forum’s annual placard demonstration on Friday.
Pupils from Grades R to 12 took to the streets with posters to spread awareness of the dangers of drug abuse.
The forum’s Sam Pillay said: “We want the talk of drug abuse to start with families, and spread through the community.”
The demonstration follows the forum’s call for a specialised police unit in Chatsworth to tackle drug dealers.
Pillay said: “We can’t hold our breath for the drug dealers to be caught; we don’t have the capacity, but we can educate ourselves.”
Motorists hooted in support as the pupils chanted: “Drugs can kill!”
Holding a poster, 12-year-old Caylin said he hadn’t been pressured to try harmful substances and would not to do so. “I know drugs can destroy your life,” he said.
Principal Kovilan Moodley praised the pupils for their participation.
