Power, noise and cars with potent poise

START your engines! Motoring enthusiasts are in for a treat as the International Auto Sound Challenge Association (Iasca) South Africa brings the Semis 2017 Car Spectacular to Sibaya Casino.

Petrol-heads will be pitted against each other in a range of auto and sound contests, including the dyno challenge to find the fastest and most powerful car, on August 19 and 20.

Iasca-kzn affiliate and judge Vinesh Bissoon said: “We want to set the world record for the loudest vehicle in a specific class.”

Of the more than 200 potential competitors, some already hold national and international titles for quality sound.

Souped-up vehicles will be a part of the fare, some bearing modifications worth more than R300 000.

“It’s all about boys and their toys,” said Bissoon, who lauded young competitors for their passion for motoring and called on older participants to show their cars.

With the event falling in Women’s Month, Bissoon said more women were breaking into the male-dominated realm.

For those on a budget, there’s the street elite class, to encourage newcomers to take part.

Participants are expected to come to Durban from across the country and many of them will also go to Cape Town for the leg there in September.

Anyone can attend – entry is free for spectators.
