Pets’ hotel in dog box over mishap

- LUKE FOLB

WHEN pet owners send their best friends to doggie hotels while they’re on holiday, the last thing they expect on their return is a traumatised dog. But this is what happened to Ronel Vorster who dropped off her two pedigreed Pekingese dogs, Taro and Tamara, at @Frits Dog Hotel and Daycare Centre in Castle Street, Cape Town, on Thursday, September 14, for a three-night stay.

Vorster said she had told the hotel they were not allowed to take them out on walks or to be washed or groomed.

Three days after dropping them off, Vorster decided to log into the webcam facilities the hotel offers to see how her dogs were getting on, only to discover Taro was not in the room.

On calling the facility, she was told a groomer had mistakenly taken Taro for a shave. Unfortunately, the staff discovered their mistake halfway through the shave.

Yanic Klue, the owner of @Frits, said that the incident was a human error.

“We made a mistake. Once we realised we gave him a professional cut for a Pekingese and offered the owner flowers and a gift voucher as an apology,” he said.
