Cops pay R3m for killing taxi boss dad-of-four
POLICE will pay the family of taxi boss Bongani Mkhize R3 million in compensation for murdering the father-of-four in February 2009.
Mkhize was killed by the disbanded Cato Manor Organised Crime Unit during a car chase on Umgeni Road.
Police alleged they had been shot at by the deceased.
Police claimed Mkhize was linked to the 2009 murder of traditional leader Mbongeleni Zondi, 37. They claim he allegedly mastermind the killing of top cop Superintendent Zethembe Chonco.
In October 2008, Mkhize, in a desperate attempt to save his life and fearing that the police wanted to kill him, secured a Durban High Court interdict against the police.
He was killed four months after securing the interdict.
