Mosques to showcase Muslim religion
MOSQUES throughout South Africa, including the Grey Street Mosque, are to showcase the Islamic religion this afternoon in an effort to celebrate heritage and clear up misconceptions about the Muslim lifestyle.
From 2pm to 4pm, designated mosques will host visitors for a tour of prayer facilities and, over light snacks, share insight on the meaning of Islamic traditions.
Organiser, Dr Faisal Suliman, said the aim was to dispel stereotypes surrounding Muslims.
“Our question-and-answer sessions are popular because people can understand Islam through interaction with members of the Muslim community,” he said.
Visitors are advised to wear conservative clothing and, according to Suliman, some might be able to get a glimpse of afternoon prayers.
