Stepdad charged with rape allegedly assaulted by police
THE case against a man accused of repeatedly raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter in Verulam has been postponed pending outcome of a medical examination.
The 43-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by neighbours – and seemingly also “roughed up” by officers of the Reaction Unit SA – after allegations of the sexual abuse became public.
The girl’s mother died five years ago.
The man has been charged in the Verulam Family Court with rape, sexual grooming of a child, sexual assault, and exposure or display of pornography to children.
The man appeared in court in bloodstained clothes and was barely able to stand.
Magistrate Irfaan Khalil postponed the matter to June 25 in order for a medical report to be handed in regarding the man’s injuries.
Photographs (seen on the right) posted on the Reaction Unit South Africa Facebook page this week show the alleged child rapist at the time of his arrest.
