Attractive multi-property sale set to draw many bids
A RESIDENTIAL property in the sought-after, secure Mount Edgecombe Golf Estate, north of Durban, is one of the major attractions of the Ian Wyles Auctioneers multi-property sale at the Durban Country Club on February 27 at 11am.
The four-bedroom house on offer is at 24 Hillhead Road in the estate’s Palm Springs Village. Andrew Giddy, property manager at Ian Wyles, says with the location, lifestyle and strong security in place at Mount Edgecombe, it has already attracted several enquiries.
“The lifestyle at Mount Edgecombe is always in strong demand. Mount Edgecombe Country Club has two 18-hole championship courses. The older course, The Woods, was upgraded about 20 years ago when the Mount Edgecombe residential estate was initially developed.
On what was originally known as Hullett’s Country Club, and created by Sid Brews in 1936, the course was upgraded and modernised in 1992 by Hugh Baiocchi, and is one of the few courses in South Africa to meet the US Golf Association specifications.
“The Woods has a parkland layout and has hosted numerous amateur, as well as professional, tournaments. With four sets of tees, the course is playable by golfers of any handicap,” Giddy explains.
Plans for the second course, The Lakes, began in 1994 when Dayson, De Villiers and Van der Merwe were commissioned to design the championship course south of The Woods. The Lakes was opened at the end of 1997 and is undulating and different from The Woods. Here there is indigenous bush in places and a fair share of imposing water hazards. This course has its own small clubhouse overlooking the Pani Dam.
For nature lovers, the estate ticks all the boxes. Part of Mount Edgecombe is a registered conservancy, nurtured by environmentally protected areas and alien vegetation control. Birdlife is exceptional and, together with the resident buck brings, a special element to residents.
“It is not uncommon to see pelicans on Pani Dam or hear the call of the African fish eagle there. Residents enjoy secure outdoor family living among nature trails and beautiful dams,” Giddy adds.
