THE Durban Entrepreneurs Club (DEC) recently secured Actioncoach Ignite as its sponsor for 2019.

The DEC’S founder, Durban entrepreneur and public speaker Grant Gavin, said this was in line with taking the club to the next level.

“We are thrilled to welcome Actioncoach Ignite as the club’s sponsor,” said Gavin.

Now in its fourth year, DEC has enjoyed consistent growth and now has more than 200 members.

The club provides a platform for like-minded individuals to come together once a month, listen to a high-calibre guest speaker and have the opportunity to meet one another and build meaningful business relationships.

“The DEC helps members to access entrepreneurial resources, network with prominent entrepreneurs and share ideas for success. With a focus on getting individuals together to network and build relationships, we aim to stimulate small business growth in Durban and create future business leaders and entrepreneurial success stories,” said Gavin.

The DEC was founded in October 2015 to provide a platform for networking. Members meet once a month from February to November, with an inspirational speaker at every event.

Past guest speakers include

Gareth Cliff, Mpume Langa, Ashok Sewnarain, Marnus Broodryk, Dawn Nathan Jones, Darlene Menzies, Vivian Reddy and Margaret Hirsch.

Gavin said entrepreneurship was a lonely journey and it was good for local entrepreneurs to know that they could come to their events and meet people who were facing similar challenges.

“We have a speed networking session every evening for 10 minutes, and members and guests always comment on how this session alone makes it worth being at the evening, for the contacts and relationships that are formed.”

He said that in this, its fourth year, the club had had many success stories, with its growth being the highlight.

“The growth of the club, in itself, is a success story of finding a need and providing a solution.”

Gavin said that initially no corporates were interested in sponsoring the club, forcing them to realise that, like any entrepreneurial venture, they had to do it themselves – and they did.
