Where's the NFP leader?

- Mfana Charles Khumalo By e-mail

THE recent press conference addressed by the Maliyakhe Shelembe, the national chairman of the National Freedom Party (NFP) cannot go unchallenged.

The leadership of the NFP is in denial that the party is running its last mile in politics. The long sick leave of its leader Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi and the internal leadership squabbles tell us a lot about the writing on the wall.

We fail to understand why the NFP leadership keeps on saying Magwaza-Msibi “will be with us soon ” but every now and then she does not pitch up. Do they believe she is still a crowd puller or their trump card?

This tells us that there is a great possibility of her not coming back again into active politics. The NFP ’ s campaign to keep her fresh in the minds of her supporters is now running out of strategies.

Canaan Mdletshe is doing his job as her spokesperson in the Ministry of Science and Technology. Recently he said she was “99% healthy ”. Although we empathise with the NFP leader as we are all human beings but if she is so fit as a fiddle why does she not attend her party ’ s rallies or do office work? Why haven ’ t we seen her on television or on any other media?

Why don ’ t they tell the people now that chances are bleak that she will come back? Why is her deputy not given the chance to lead the party?

For how long will the NFP survive with their outdated political tricks? It is high time the NFP stopped living in political denial.
