KAIZER Chiefs are to host African Champions League opponents Volcan Club at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban today.

This is because their original scheduled fixture was postponed due to Volcan s late arrival in the country.

The 24-hour delay will be an irritation to coach Steve Komphela, who now has a day less to prepare for Saturday s Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates.

Leading 4-0 from the first leg a fortnight ago, the result of the Volcan tie is seen as a formality Chiefs would like to already have put behind them.

Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa said the information they received from Safa, under whose auspices the game is played, was that the delay was due to the late processing of visas and subsequent difficulty with travel arrangements.

This is what we have been told, obviously we do not talk directly with Volcan Club,” he said, adding Chiefs had engaged the Confederation of African Football and Safa over whether the game should be played at all.

This is not ideal for the club, but we agreed to the postponement in the spirit of football and out of respect for the fans.”

With the eThekwini Municipality having paid to host the game, Chiefs also risked falling foul of their agreement if they did not play the fixture.

Chiefs won the first leg in Moroni thanks to a brace of goals from Erick Mathoho and further strikes from Bernard Parker and Sula Matovu.

Should they advance as expected, they will likely face Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas in the next round.

The Ivorian side are also in action today and lead AS CotonTchad 1-0 with the home leg to come.
