- TINA GEORGE The Voice SA.

ZAHARA S hit song Loliwe got a special delivery from a male vocal duo on last Sunday s episode of

Botlhale Phora (20) and Karabo Makwela (24), who make up Blaque Harmony, charmed judges and viewers alike with their heartfelt harmonised rendition.

Coach Karen Zoid s desperate plea won the two over when she sang a line of the song back to them.

Born and bred in Ga-Rankuwa, the two contestants were the first to enter as a duet.

The duo began singing together just over a year ago, hoping to make ends meet for their families and raise funds for their studies.

Financial constraints forced Phora to abandon his dream of becoming an architect while Makwela needed an income to fund his IT Studies at Rosebank College.

Not only are the duo perfectly synched in harmony and even answering questions in synch on stage, they are also, as Phora puts it, close like a finger and a nail

We do most things together as music unites us. We re not different from each other because we re both dreamers who love music and have the same taste in many things,” said Phora.

He began singing in 2012 at a school choir and had been working with house music producers as De Vowcalist before he met Makwela who had been singing in church.

The duo believes that talent alone is not enough for them to make it.

If we win the competition we will definitely study further. The Voice SA is a great exposure and an opportunity to better our situation at home if we make it far,” he said.

Thoughts of going solo in the distant future have not crossed their minds and will simply not be an option for either of the singers.
