Mathu app aids pupils to catch up

Educational software products company, Mathu Teaching Emporium, has granted free access to its mathematics and science learning platform as a measure to help prepare learners catch up with lost teaching and learning time.

The Pretoria-based company said all grade 10,11 and 12 students will be able to download the Mathu Infinity app free of charge until further notice.

Teaching and learning has been severely impacted by the outbreak of Covid-19 with the Department of Basic Education finding itself in the race against time to save the 2020 academic year.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said last week that pupils in grades 7 and 12 are expected to return to school on June 1 if all the department’s plans to get schools safe from Covid-19 go according to plan.

Mathu CEO Will Burger said the app guides pupils by reinforcing core concepts in sections they don’t grasp, thus providing assistance that was previously only available during one-on-one sessions with teachers. “The Mathu learning suite is the swiss army knife of tutoring that can greatly advance the academic absorption rate within technical fields such as mathematics, maximising the quality of learning by providing students with the necessary information when they need it,” said Burger.

The app can be downloaded from the Android Play and Apple App stores under the name Mathu Infinity. The course content facilitates both the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement and Independent Examinations Board curriculums. The app is accompanied by a parent app that allows parents indepth access to understand the concepts that the children are struggling with.
