Former Muvhango actor and TV presenter Lesley Musina has applied for a protection order against members of a Cape Town-based property stokvel called Black Bantu Movement (BBM) over claims he allegedly scammed them out of R50 000.

Musina, a former Speak Out presenter, has also opened a case of crimen injuria against members of the co-operative.

According to court papers filed at the Randburg magistrate’s court, Musina said he was approached by two members of BBM last July asking him to help them publicise their co-operative, which was trying to recruit more members to raise funds to buy property across the country under the BBM umbrella. They agreed to pay him R50 000 upfront, with the balance to be paid upon reaching their target of R1-million contributions monthly.

However, despite his efforts, the target could not be reached and the group demanded their R50 000 back. “They have now resorted to cyberbullying, calling me a scammer and fraud. Everyday on Twitter I’m being portrayed as a criminal by one of the members, Nontsundu,” said Musina.

Musina asked the court to grant him a protection order against the members. BBM founding member Dyosi Nkolo’s lawyer, Wanga Mampana, confirmed the matter but said they had not yet received any summons.

Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele confirmed that a case of defamation of character was investigated. But he said it was now closed as undetected and referred to a civil court.
