Fashion designer David Tlale has embarrassingly failed to award the prizes of his SABC3 reality TV show, The Intern by David Tlale, to the winner, Keletso Moraba.

Sunday World can exclusively reveal that Tlale has not handed over the prizes to Moraba, who was runner-up but later crowned the winner after seizing the top spot from initial winner Kuena Moshoeshoe in 2018.

Moraba was supposed to have received a Mercedez-benz CLA, a R200 000 cash prize payable in tranches, R250 000 to set up a new studio and a year as Tlale’s assistant designer.

But in what will definitely cause untold embarrassment for the SABC3 and Greyscale Production, Tlale has still not handed over the prizes.

These shocking details are contained in court papers Moraba filed in the Joburg High Court last week. Moraba is demanding over R750 000 from Tlale for breach of contract.

In the court papers, which Sunday World has seen, Moraba’s lawyers Moshoana Mabena Inc said of the R200 000 cash prize, Tlale had paid Moraba only over R70 000 and only over R70 000 to set up the designer studio and did not give him the luxury German machine. Now Moraba’s lawyers want the court to give them an order for Tlale to pay the outstanding amounts.

“In breach of the aforesaid agreement, the defendant failed and/or refused to deliver nor to pay the plaintiff an amount of R519 000 … equivalent to such a value of the vehicle, nor settle the outstanding winning prize of R119 308 … and an amount of R119 606 towards the setting up of the studio. “As a result of the aforesaid breach, the plaintiff suffered damages in the amount of R757 984 … being in respect of such a breach.,” reads the summons. Tlale said he was surprised that Moraba took the matter to court. “Keletso got a lot of those prizes but there were a few of those that are missing and he will get them as soon as everybody is at work and making money,” said Tlale.
