Hundreds of new voting stations

- Staff Reporter

THE Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it has added more than 300 new voting stations where people can register to vote for the upcoming local government polls.

The IEC also urged South Africans to use this weekend to either register as new voters in their local area or change their voter registration details if they have moved since the previous municipal elections in 2011.

According to the IEC, a total of 22 570 voting stations will be open today to assist voters.

“The increase in voting stations reflects not only the increase in wards following the municipal demarcation process but is also part of the ongoing efforts by the Electoral Commission to enhance accessibility to voters,” it said.

“The increase in voting stations since 2011 has favoured rural provinces …”

Registration stations are located at many premises.
