ACTRESS Sonia Mbele returns to the small screen as a bitter Mmamosa seeking revenge on SABC2’s new telenovela

Mbele explains that for 20 years Mmamosa has been putting up measures to avenge herself against a well-known boxer she once had a fling with.

They met many years ago and he does not even remember her. So obviously this turns her into a very bitter, twisted person who wants to bring him down.”

Mbele says the character will blow viewers away.

I turned down quite a lot of offers waiting for this one particular role that will blow everyone out of the water, and when it came along, I just couldn’t resist,” Mbele says.

She says her new character is different from her previous ones as it was carefully selected.

I choose the characters that I play carefully. I accept the more exciting roles, the juicier the better for me. As much as I have played a mother before, this is different because I am a mother to a 20-something year old,” she says.

Mbele is very popular for having played Ntombi in for many years.

The mother-of-three says she had been focusing on her businesses for the past four years, but added that she still loved acting.

Once I felt that my businesses were in a space where they can fly on their own, I decided to come back to acting, which is my first love,” she says.

The telenovela also stars Maki Mokhitli, Modiehi Mokobane and Lehlonono Seseli.

The channel’s programme manager Jacqui Hlongwane describes the telenovela as an action-packed drama, full of rage, lies and love that take viewers deep into the sullied heart of the sports industry.

The channel is super-excited about this new locally produced telenovela, a first for SABC2. Viewers can look forward to a mix of new and familiar faces, riveting story lines with many twists and turns,” she says.

The telenovela premieres tomorrow at 9.30pm. It will air every Monday and Tuesday.
