Washing away the car wash blues

- BATLILE PHALADI

FOR every Gauteng household, there is a vehicle owner or two, maybe even three, and this has led to the traffic congestion on our roads.

But, it does not end there. We also experience car-wash congestion at weekends when in a rush to get our cars cleaned.

But, one man may have found the solution to our car wash woes, by eliminating the long queues at our favourite car washes.

Young businessman Ayanda Dladla, 28, from Umlazi in KwaZulu-Natal, shares the sentiments about the tiring, long queues at car washes after spending sleepless nights working on a solution to curb the wait.

Dladla created the first ever App to book a mobile car wash called Mowash, which can be found at PayStores for Android cellphone users.

Dladla, a computer engineer by profession, has started a mobile car wash for people in and around Midrand.

He says he was among people who didn’t wash their cars because of the long queues at car washes.

“It is draining that we had to queue to do everything. I sat down with friends and thought about the solution. My friends pulled out but I was determined to make it work, ” said Dladla.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal graduate launched his mobile car wash in September.

“All people need to do is download the app, book the slot and we come to you with water and all the car wash equipment,” Dladla said.

The entrepreneur said he has received overwhelming support from people.

“Midrand is a big suburb. There are also a lot of car wash places but they are always full.”

He said the mobile car wash is planning to expand to other areas in Gauteng and out of Gauteng as there has been a demand. “People have been calling me to buy the franchise. I’m not currently looking to see but to work hard and expand.

“The demand has been evidence that people would love cars to be cleaned in the comfort of their homes.”

Dladla says his car wash also does an inspection.

“For instance, if you car’s lights are broken we check that for you, we basically notify you of every visible fault we note on your car.”

A car wash costs from R80 to R100. It is also water wise. A normal car wash uses 200 litres on average, but his mobile car wash uses 35 litres washing eight to 10 cars.
