There seems to be no stopping the walkers, Carol and Jean Nepgen, who headed to KZN on July 8, where they participat­ed in the Queensburg­h six-hour circuit. According to Jean, this 1000m route was particular­ly challengin­g as it was all on grass, which was soft and long in places, and they also had to contend with moles hampering their progress.

They started the event at 1pm and Carol completed 31km and Jean stopped after 25km.

The following morning saw them at the same venue for the Queensburg­h 12-hour day circuit race. The grass had been flattened a Ladies’ Golf July 12: Twenty-seven members of the fairer sex turned out on a chilly and breezy Tuesday afternoon to play a better-ball stableford competitio­n for the President’s Prize sponsored by Ingrid Griffiths. Debbie Longhurst and Glynnis Renecle carded a match winning 45 points to edge out runners-up Pru Peacock and Theresa Loundar (44) and third placed Bettine Hattingh and Jessica Gordon (43). Yvonne Hill and Maureen McGarvie were counted out having also scored 43 points. Glynnis and Theresa shot the best nett rounds of the day, both carding 69. The longest drive competitio­ns were held on the 18th fairway and won by Wendy Counihan and Kirsten Dales in the lower and higher handicap sections respective­ly.
