FRIDAY was a night fit for the stars as Port Alfred Primêre Skool rolled out the red carpet and pulled out all the frills, glitz and glamour in an evening to showcase their very best in singing and performance talent.

The Port Alfred Primêre Skool Idols competition was the second one held since its inception last year and it had such great support that the Civic Centre, unrecognisable with its glamorous decor, was filled to the brim with family and pupils who came to watch the singing sensations take to the stage.

The school held a series of auditions and elimination rounds in the weeks before and selected entrants for each phase to take part in the competition.

Noticing the amount of raw talent among the pupils, and a need to expose young children to more culturally enriching activities, plans unfolded with great response from the pupils and with the willingness of excellent staff, working as creative directors and coordinators, Port Alfred Primêre Skool Idols has grown and become bigger and better.

“This event brings great excitement to all involved. The event belongs to all the participants – let us give honour to them and their talents,” said principal Tommy Scott.

“This is an opportunity in your life to be become great, grab this with both hands,” said Scott.

At the end, the nightingale voice belonged to Chantonia Denston who emerged as winner of Idols 2016.

First up for the evening performing with backtracks was foundation phase pupil, Janine Burger who performed Footsteps in the Sand, followed by several other foundation phase contestants who sang hard and put their best foot forward as they sang against each other.

Round two saw intermediate phase pupils belt it out with a special performance from one of last year’ star performers, Rueshay Coltman.

Idols 2016 also held a category for group performers, the senior phase, a special solo performance by Veruska Nelson, as well as a performance that involved all the participants singing We are the World.

Winners of each of the phases were, Loe-Ann Wagner for foundation phase, Lisakhanya Moyikwa for intermediate phase and Joshua Farao for senior phase, while Esam and Elona Feni won the group winners category.
