FRESH STOP PORT ALFRED MIXED August 20 Warm and sunny conditions with little wind were the order of the day on Saturday morning encouraging 31 players to turn out for Fresh Stop’s mixed 2-to-count Stableford alliance competition in one 3-ball and seven 4-balls. The 3-ball of Dale Wisener, Eric Lindsay and Lizzie Lambrechts put in a workman-like display to card a winning 89 points. Second-placed Kevin Maree, Andy Manson, Debbie Longhurst and Ingrid Griffiths counted out Dave Stanley, Tim Shanks, Guy Cash and Eric Segers into third, both covies one point in arrears on 88. The weekly energy drinks went to Lynette Harbrecht, Terry Harris, Pogs and Bruce Smith for coming bottom of the points list with 80 points. Dave Stanley sank the only 2-club of the morning (6th). The day's best individual net rounds were recorded by Guy Cash, Cecil Jones-Phillipson (67) and Ingrid Griffiths (68). Bryan Robinson went home a bottle of wine richer for winning this sponsor's treat for being closest to the pin on the 8th. KGB RESULTS August 16 After 10 mm of rain fell overnight and with more threatening to fall during the course of the morning, only 12 intrepid (or foolish) players went out to play the usual 2-to-count Stableford in three 4-balls. They did end up getting a little damp during the course of the competition. Barrie B Brady (67), Brian Shirley (69), Tommy Meyer (69) and Eric Segers (68) all shot under 70 net scores to card 92 points and win. Peter Longhurst, John Abbot, Mike Stadler and Dave Curran scored 87 points to take second place and Hugh Holmes, Chris Niebieszczanski, Andy Manson and Paul Fryer brought up the rear to capture the Hamer en Sukkel on 79 points. Barrie sank the only 2-club of the morning (13th). August 19 Mainly overcast and muggy conditions were the order of the day on Friday. Gusty westerlies did spring up mid-morning but had minimal effect on the 35 players who were drawn into eight 4-balls and one 3-ball to play a 2-to-count Stableford alliance. Wilton Adcock, Cecil Grobbelaar, Neil Loundar and Paul Fryer scored 89 points to win the morning's proceedings closely followed by Gerald Churchley, John Crandon, Eric Lindsay and Peter Longhurst on 88. At the other end of the points list, the 79 carded by Martin Lambrechts, David Groenewald, Tom Tagg and Mike Brown was insufficient to avoid them sharing the dreaded Hamer en Sukkel trophy at the 19th hole. Bryan Robinson (68) and John Crandon (69) shot the only sub 70 individual net scores, but the highlight of the day was John's eagle 2 on the par 4 fourth, the only 2-club of the morning.
