Low turnout for Rock and Surf round robin

-

THE seventh round of the annual PARSC Rock and Surf GM Kenrich Round Robin competition took place on August 20 in not-so-kind weather conditions.

The Port Alfred River and Ski-boat Club’s Rock and Surf chairman Gary du Randt said, however, that the sea looked great and the water temperature was not too cold on the Boknes/Cannon Rock coast.

“We only had a 35% turnout from our members with a total of 10 fish being caught and a total weight of only 13kg recorded. With this been said we had a 100%-release rate yet again and I must congratulate the anglers on this. We also caught five different species on the day,” Du Randt said.

The following achievements were recognised: Biggest in the species: kob – 1.6kg and a yellowbelly rockcod – 1.3kg caught by Nial Borland; blacktail – 1.6kg Paul Knight; banded galjoen – 0.6kg Bruce Amos; strepie – 0.7kg Scott Knight.

Top Internal Game Fishing Association team (weight converted to points) was Team 2 consisting of Paul Knight, Terry Stewart, Don Murry and Bruce Amos on 104 points.

In second place on 76 points, was Team 1 consisting of Adrian Bezuidenhout, Greg Baxter, Nial Borland, Lenard Bodill, and in third place on 71 points, was Team 5 consisting of Gary du Randt, Brendan Marais, Melissa du Randt and Scott Knight.

The sealed weight was shared by Paul Knight for his 1.6kg blacktail and Nial Borland’s 1.6kg kob. Borland also walked away with the Buckland’s Reserve heaviest fish released, Coastal Care Care/Sotheby’s catch of the day for his yellowbelly rockcod. Best junior under 16 was Scott Knight on 0.6kg of fish.

“After prize-giving the members who attended, enjoyed a braai, as well as a nice chat around the fire. Thanks to Don Fryer for all his efforts in making this possible after every compo,” Du Randt said.
