Accident claims three lives on R67

-

THE R67, close to the Endlovini Stadium, was the scene of a fatal accident when a Gardmed ambulance hit three adult pedestrians, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, at about 6.45am on Wednesday.

The third was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but died later. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Police are investigating the reason for the accident and a case of culpable homicide has been opened.

A burglar who broke into a home in Mashisi Street, Kwanonqubela, in Alexandria was arrested by police on Sunday.

The homeowner heard a noise and alerted the local SAPS. The burglar was found with electrical appliances. The 28-year-old suspect was due to appear in the Alexandria Magistrate’s Court this week. Multi-Security was alerted about a mysterious white Toyota Fortuner in Prince’s Avenue last Wednesday night, the occupants of which were trying to sell pepper spray to students living in the street.

A Stenden security guard told response officers that one of the occupants, wearing a red shirt and grey pants, got out of the car and disappeared into the bushes. The response officers patrolled, but found neither the vehicle nor the suspicious person on foot.

The same vehicle was spotted on CCTV cameras in the CBD and police responded, but they let the driver go as the vehicle did not have the same number plate as the one spotted in Prince’s Avenue.

There appeared to be a break-in in Hove Street last Thursday night. MultiSecurity responded to an alarm and found the door and security door to the Wendy house on the property were standing wide open. The bars of the security gate were damaged.

MultiSecurity control room tried to contact the owners, but no one answered their cellphones.

Response officers could not tell if anything had been stolen. A guard was posted at the premises.
