PLANNING is in full swing for the Amazing Events sports extravaganza in Port Alfred this December.

A planning meeting was held between organisers Michael Zoetmulder of ZSports Events, local sports tourism entrepreneurs Zwelinzima Nkwinti and Dave Lawson, Sunshine Coast Tourism and Ndlambe Municipality officials last week.

Intended as an annual event, Amazing Events will engage locals and visitors alike, seeking to especially draw visitors to Port Alfred.

An exciting preliminary programme of 12 events to be held between December 17-20 was revealed by the organisers last week.

The dates and times of the individual events will be released at a later stage, as well as the venue and routes.

While 32 national teams will compete at beach volleyball, teams for beach soccer will be drawn from the local community.

Bodyboarding and a surfing competition will take place at East Beach.

Two other national events, jetski races and rubber duck races, will be held in the ocean off East and West beaches.

A favourite fun-filled event – anything-that-floats – as well as a tube race, will be held on the Kowie River.

The popular and well-established Kowie River Mile will form part of Amazing Events.

Last Man Standing is a swimathon. There will also be a mountain bike race in the Port Alfred area and a night mile fun run.

The full details of each of the above events will be communicated as soon as routes are confirmed. Each of the events will be run by individual organisers under the management of ZSports, Nkwinti and Lawson and will be marketed under the banner “Amazing Events”.

Amazing Events is operating out of the gatehouse at Riverview Estates as a subsidiary of Umcinga Enterprises (Pty) Limited.

There will also be entertainment such as beer gardens, vendors, crafters and kids’ entertainment.

The event promises to involve the whole community with some exhibition events.
