Get blown away at the Cannon Rocks Kiteboarding Classic
Top athletes pumped for SA’s favourite event
FROM today until Saturday, South Africa’s top kiteboarding athletes will be taking part in what promises to be another cracker edition of the Cannon Rocks Kiteboarding Classic.
Over the years, scenic Cannon Rocks has made a name for itself by providing kiteboarders with world-class conditions.
Nestled on the Sunshine Coast, it has much to offer for kiteboarders of all levels, and so does the contest.
“This event has become the most stable and popular fixture on the South African kiteboarding circuit,” organiser Cedric Vandenschrik said.
The contest, which is now in its sixth edition, has grown over the years to have more of a “festival” feel, with everyone making the trek mostly for the vibe.
The contest gives South African kiteboarders of all levels the opportunity to take centrestage and display their skills, within different categories.
The exhilarating action ranges from freestyle, big air, racing and wave-riding, given the right weather conditions.
“The Cannon Rocks Kiteboarding Classic has always prided itself on running a flexible event that fits in with given weather conditions, especially for the amateur categories.
“It also allows the pros to show off their best in the best conditions,” Vandenschrik said.
The festivities don’t stop on the beach.
With great support from the local community and groups of riders from various provinces in South Africa, Cannon Rocks comes alive after a day at the beach.
The main cash sponsors for the competition are Peter Lynn Kiteboarding and Cannonrocks.com.
The small cash sponsors are Cannon Rocks Holiday Resort, Pam Golding, Genergy and Cannon Rocks Home builders.
The entry fee is R300.
Pre-registration will take place at the Cannon Rocks holiday resort from 9am to 10am on Thursday October 6 at kite beach (Still Water).
